It depends on the version of the kernel:
1) sometimes the computer wakes up after you click keyboard or mouse movement or pressing the power button,
2) sometimes the computer wakes up only after pressing the power button

I prefer the second behavior. However, the latest kernel wake my computer in the first behavior.

How configure the preferred behavior after suspend?

First - you have to share with us what kind of machine do you have, and after that you have to check the bios supported sleep modes, and quirks. But somtimes you have to know that bios can buggy, or acpi part incomplete. First try to check your bios if the latest or not, if not - you have to upgrade that and that might help for you. Also it depends from the OS release and kernel versions - if you can please run in terminal an "uname -a' command too - and will see that we can help you.
