Using Fedora 16 don't see .bashrc I do see bashrc are they the same?

locate bashrc

command from a terminal. You should see all the locations where the bashrc and .bashrc files are.

This is what I see in my f16 laptop:

$ locate bashrc
/etc/bashrc
/etc/skel/.bashrc
/home/claudio/.bashrc

Then see my comment at your question above and let's see what we can do to fix your error. I am afraid, from the error message you reported, that there might be a typo or a syntax error in your alias.

From what I see until now the error is in the way you wrote the alias. Aliases in bash MUST start with the alias keyword.

If you run the command alias from a terminal you will see the default aliases already present in your system. You colud try to use one of them as a template to build your own alias.

$ alias
alias egrep='egrep --color=auto'
alias fgrep='fgrep --color=auto'
alias grep='grep --color=auto'
alias l.='ls -d .* --color=auto'
alias ll='ls -l --color=auto'
alias ls='ls --color=auto'
alias which='alias | /usr/bin/which --tty-only --read-alias --show-dot --show-tilde'

But what is also missing in your question at the moment is what exactly you would like to do typing CLEAR. Probably clearing the screen and what else?
