Grub boot menu: group together normal kernels, then debug kernels

My desktop installation keeps three different versions of the normal kernel, and three different versions of the debug kernel, so all six (plus the rescue kernel and Windows) show up in the grub's boot menu. But the menu shows (for example) 4.4.3, 4.4.3-debug, 4.4.2, 4.4.2-debug, etc., while I want the order to be 4.4.3, 4.4.2, 4.4.1, 4.4.3-debug, etc.

I can easily use grub-customizer to change the menu order after a new kernel is installed, but I'd prefer some way to make the system automatically order the menu that way after a kernel installation.
