I am a new user to Fedora. I'm quite familiar with command lines in Ubuntu and I assumed most commands are the same on Fedora. However, I realised I could not use e.g. apt-get etc.

What then, are the basic command lines to know when using Fedora?

The above answers will get you started.

I would suggest you look at the Fedora documentation

Including the sys admin guide

and the selinux guide

The other thing to know, rpmfusion is the 3rd party repo roughly equivalent of universe and multiverse in ubuntu . Think nvidia / ati drivers, multi media.

Defenitly yum command in fedora is the alter-ego of apt-get debian-like distro command. If you want to learn more about fedora here you will find official documentation:

in particular the yum command and all its features are nicely explained in the following section:

Shortly: You probably used a lot sudo apt-get install <package-name> command in your debian like distro. In fedora the equivalent is quite the same sudo yum install <package-name>.
