Lately I have been having this strange issue with my laptop running Fedora 23 (kernel: 4.4.8-300.fc23.x86_64) When I close the lid of my laptop it goes into sleep, but when I try and wake it from sleep it seemingly crashes; rebooting the system and leaving me unable to continue where I left off as easily.

Other info:

  1. Gnome 3.18 DE

I have no idea where to start looking to find the fix for this so any help is greatly appreciated.

Same here on 4.4.9-300.fc23.x86_64 and GNOME Shell 3.18.5

Is there any crash you can see in gnome-abrt?

Nothing is reported there in my case. Actually to be more accurate with my issue - the system halts occasionally when the screen locks and turns off. The sleep mode itself is turned off according to the Power settings. I need to say that there is nothing special running when it happens. I.e there could be only a terminal and/or Mozilla running.

Note that Fedora 23 is End of Life, so your best course of action is upgrading to Fedora 25. The likely cause is your video card driver. In particular, using nouveau for nvidia hardware could cause this in Fedora 23. Fedora 25 uses the new Wayland graphics server by default and has much newer kernel and drivers than Fedora 23 at this point. If you'd like to test if Fedora 25 fixes your suspend issue, you can do so with a Live USB.
