how can i locate mysql

hallo,

i have installe Mysql (tutorial), but i don't know where i installe it. because i can not stop it.

[stevchen99@localhost ~]$ su -
Password: 
[root@localhost ~]# /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
-bash: /etc/init.d/mysqld: No such file or directory

First, direct call to /etc/init.d/ script (when it exists) is a very bad practice.

As said in previous answer, You should use the "service" command.

On recent fedora version, mysql service is managed by systemd ("service" command still works, but will redirect to "systemctl" command), so

systemctl start mysqld.service

You can type (to stop it)

sudo service mysqld stop

If you want to locate it for other purposes, you can do:

type mysql

to find out where is the executable, or

locate mysql

to search where is mysql. The disadvantage is you will possibly obtain much adresses.
