F17: Failed to boot. Wait for Plymouth screen to start.

My PC has GeForce 6600 video card. I currently have F17 KDE kernel 3.7.3-101.fc17.x86_64. I use akmod-nvidia (304.61-1) to load proprietary Nvidia driver. Usually kmod-nvidia is automatically loaded whenever I update using "yum update --skip-broken". This system has been doing OK until last night, when booting in I saw a black screen with the following error message:

"FAILED. Failed to start. Wait for Plymouth boot screen to start"

I suspect kmod-nvidia is the culprit but I cannot get into the system. Yum update shows "nothing to do". By the way, booting into older kernel 3.6.11-5 is OK.

Can you help me? Thanks a lot.

In my original post, "yum update" actually says "no package is marked for updated".

Anyway, I just found a solution as posted in fedora forum:

Basically, I booted into the older kernel, used yumex to identify the missing kmod-nvidia package then installed it.
