Hi all, I have installed Fedora 16 and it starts with gdm, but I don't see any button to change the desktop to log in. I've tried switching it with system-switch-displaymanager and even editing /etc/sysconfig/desktop, but neither of the works. Anyone could help please? Thanks

In Fedora 16 (that now has GNOME3.2 and GDM3.2), it seems that GDM does not always display the option to choose an alternate desktop when clicking a username from the main list of users. The old behaviour was that when you choose the user, the password dialog appears, and so did the option to choose the "Session" (i.e. an alternate desktop such as KDE or XFCE).

However, it is still possible to do this from GDM. Just click on the "Not listed?" link at the bottom of the user list in the main login screen, and the subsequent dialog will present you the choice of desktop session. (of course, you will have to type your username in by hand also.)

hope this helps!

I have installed KDE on my Fedora 16 system and when I click on my username in GDM, there is a small arrow just below the password screen. If you open that up it gives you a choice of using GNOME or KDE to login.

I used the following command to install KDE. For XFCE, Openbox, you will have find out the correct group name using yum grouplist and use that.

$ sudo yum groupinstall "KDE Software Compilation"

Hope that helps.

Doesn't work in Fedora 20. There are no options presented in the login screen.
