Fedora 23 AMD drivers
How do i install VGA drivers for Fedora 23? My VGA is Radeon HD 6950
If you simply want your card to work, you already have the open source ATI drivers installed as part of Fedora.
However if you are talking about the fglrx proprietary driver...
To put it simply, you can't. Looking at the AMD driver page, the proprietary fglrx driver not only doesn't officially support Fedora, but requires older versions of both X (<=1.17) and the kernel (<=3.19).
There is hope for ATI on Linux in the form of AMDGPU. Essentially, it will take away the headache that new kernel versions cause for ATI users. The official ATI driver will still be proprietary, but there will be an open source component that allows it to interact with the kernel without the pain that fglrx brought us.
Unfortunately, it supports very few cards at the moment and will not support any old cards.
not true one iota. I have the drivers you seek @ southern hedgehogs. And the post has been up for months. issue is lack of sources needed to build the driver with.
mebbe a line of code prevents above X 117? it has happened before....
up to kernel 4.3.x series is supported. 22 has no sources for such a kernel. I had to stop at 4.0.x instead. MY driver works. ATI issued it.
For proprietary driver, follow this guide.
Remember to set your target to multi-user. That way, it's easier to uninstall if something goes wrong.
sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target
To get into graphical after reboot:
sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target
