I have Fedora 17 with Gnome 3.4.2.

I am working with various/several desktops opened.

I would like to snapshot the states of the desktops and then reopen these desktops with the apps and windows opened. Even at boot time.

Is it possible to do a snapshot of the states of the desktops in use with all apps and windows opened and get them back at boot ?

Not sure what you are trying to achieve.

To get the exact state you were when you left you need to suspend the machine.

To get specific apps started every time you log on (but that will not get you all the open windows) you need to configure this in your window/desktop manager. For example in gnoe 3 you would add applications to the gnome-session-properties (google "gnome shell launch applications" should get you there).

If that isn't what you are looking for you may need to update your question a bit.
