I have added my OpenVPN connection through the network manager. However im pretty sure there should be an option on all wireless/wired connections where i can set it to automatically connect to my VPN, Im pretty sure this option is on Ubuntu/Arch gnome3 its quite annoying that i cant find the option.

Does fedora handle this in a different way or whats the best way to automatically connect to my vpn?

You can always create a script that load at start after NetworkManager when your computer start.

If you want to go the script route, here is an example

Gnome's NetworkManager can't do what you want, but there is a little GUI tool that does it for you (no startup script needed)

nm-connection-editor (in case it's not installed: sudo dnf install nm-connection-editor)

First, you select your network interface. Then, under the General tab you can find a setting that says:

Automatically connect to VPN when using this connection

Check the box and you are good to go.

Faced with similar issue. I decided to connect proxy server https://buy.fineproxy.org/eng/ instead VPN and I don't have any regrets. Everything works perfect. Besides I think proxy is more reliable when it comes to your anonymity.

Do you have a vpn config file ? Sure Network-manager can handle such a vpn config file. To start. Install NetworkManager-openvpn-gnome.x86_64 : NetworkManager VPN plugin for OpenVPN - GNOME files
