I've been seeing this many times. What space is it complaining about?

# systemctl stop postfix.service
Error: No space left on device
# systemctl start postfix.service
Error: No space left on device

Job failed. See system journal and 'systemctl status' for details.

# systemctl status postfix.service

Works fine when starting postfix manually:

# postfix start
postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system

I've seen this with a couple of services, not just postfix.

This also could be inode space, check df -i

Looks like a closed-wontfix bug ... due to FC17 being EOL. Can we assume you're running a later version now and it's not failing anymore?

bugzilla.redhat.com bug number 894483

sorry, I can't link it for lack of Karma

By default, Linux only allocates 8192 watches for inotify, which is ridiculously low. And when it runs out, the error is also No space left on device, which may be confusing if you aren't explicitly looking for this issue.

Here we see evidence of a problem:

tail: inotify resources exhausted

Raise this value with the appropriate sysctl:

Add this to /etc/sysctl.conf fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 262144

and then run sysctl -p
