You may or may not use the existing swap partition. If you want both Ubuntu and Fedora to use the same swap partition its totally feasible. I have personally used more than 2 Linux systems in my box and they were all using the same swap space.
One problem with this is you cannot plan to hibernate one of the Linux distros and then again boot with another one (it causes conflicts and has never worked for me). There may be loss of data or sudden system halt.
So to conclude separate swap spaces have absolutely no issues, common swap spaces has single issue of one distro hibernating. Rest both are totally OK.
Installer detect existing SWAP partition and configure/use it without problem.

It should be possible to install two or more Linux distros that will share the same swap space, but I never tried it myself.
Yes it is pretty easy too. I have Fedora, Ubuntu and Windows 7 in a single HD with separate partitions. I am using same swap partition for both Fedora & Ubuntu
