I have been trying to search for a way to adjust the brightness/backlight on my laptop's screen in the terminal. So far I have come across a wide variety of suggested possibilities, but is there a standard way to do it?
I am hoping for a similar solution like you can do with your volume: amixer -q sset 'Master' 50%
I'm running Fedora 22 with GNOME.
The most common way is to use "xbacklight". Type
xbacklight -inc / -dec / -set <percentage>
to increase / decrease / set the brightness. For multiple displays:
xbacklight -display <display> -inc / -dec / -set <percentage>
The package xbacklight must be installed.
Works! Unfortunately the slider in GNOME does not move, until I move it, unlike the volume indicator, but that's just a minor thing. As long as I can change the backlight I'm happy with this solution, as it's the best I've come across so far. Thanks for the help! Much appreciated!
