Nothing works

Fedora looks great, and it runs in an intriguing sort of way, but I can't do anything I want to do with it. I have a video editor (the only one offered under the Fedora repositories system) and it doesnt have the codecs to open my files. I can't run live OS software, like Fedora design or fedora workstation because I can't burn anything to my DVD or BluRay burners. I can't download any of my favorite animation, Video player or video editing apps because none of them are in the Fedora repositories and if I try to download and install them some other way, I get the "we're sorry, this didn't work message. Is it back to Manjaro for me?

Well I think you need to install rpmfusion.org that will add software and codec you may need or you can install fedy
https://satya164.github.io/fedy/

That will add that and some other stuff you may need, for what it looks on your post.

Thanks! I did that, and I still can't install codecs. All it tells me is installation failed. But thanks for the help!

I have tried to install rpmfusion by going to the website and trying the graphical install. I download, tell it to install, and it comes back "Sorry, this didn't work." I don't know why.

Download with wget the urls the do dnf localinstall file.rpm you need then free and nonfree doing free first

To install rpmfusion on your Fedora.......

rpmfusion site:

Fedora 14 to the most current:

su -c 'yum install --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

Excerpt from another question on ask.fedora, you first need to install/enable rpmfusion repo before running the following commands:

yum -y install gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-extras gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-ffmpeg

@makro Notice the Excerpt at the bottom in my answer... your probably talking about files(audio,video,dvd) that are patented and not free and you need 3rd party downloads/repositories for that. Just add rpmfusion to your system, install the required codecs and look for libdvdread on rpmfind.net(link text)

Hello,

I use the following :

Video editor - Pitvi
Media Burner - Brasero

Both of them works pretty well for me.

Could you please elaborate what kind of files you are trying to open and the exact steps you are following ?

Also you can use to install packages usimg following commands :

 #dnf install <package-name>   ##F22
 #yum localinstall <package-name>  ## <= F21

This will give you details why the installed failed.

I did not get what is the exact issue you are facing while running a Live OS

As @aeperezt pointed out, you might also want to install "fedy" for codecs, which will enable the required repos.

Thank you for the help! I installed brasero and it worked! I can burn dvds now. Fedora instructions said that I could burn to dvd with some installed program (image burner or something like that) but it fais every time.

Pitvi tells me it crashed whenever I try to use it (just click on import, don't even try to import, and it says it crashed). Also, I try to import some mp3 files and it won't do it. I haven't explored enough yet to know what is really going on.

Fedora workstation says that I am importing an .iso file, but I guess I am not. That is why I can't try out that OS.

My machine tells me yum has been deprecated, but I am anxious to try to install some programs (mostly animation programs) with the dnf thing. Thanks again!

Well, for one, my favorite media player (I'm a video professional) is VLC. I can't get that to install even after several tries. The website tells me to go to the Fedora RPM repository which I can't seem to do. Though I do have repositories on my system 'cuz it lets me download some stuff.
