Does VMware Player run under fedora 22 workstation?
Pretty much what it say on the title. I use it for work so I kinda need it to run if I am to upgrade.

No you need to patch it, run these commands as root
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpos...
Step 7, A patch is available at:
curl http://pastie.org/pastes/9934018/download -o /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch
Step 8, Extract the vmnet module sources:
cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source
tar -xf vmnet.tar
Step 9, Apply the patch:
patch -p0 -i /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch
Step 10, Recreate the archive:
tar -cf vmnet.tar vmnet-only
Then launch using the vmplayer menu launcher.
I have already patched it since I am running F21 so an upgrade of OS should not mess that up, right? I'm assuming that I will need to rebuild things but VMware does that automatically.
Hi!. I have F22, the first time install vmware on kernel 4.0.4-301.f22.X86_64 and work it perfect, but, when I update the kernel to the next version 4.0.6-300.f22.X86_64, vmware can't find the headers, now i got the kernel 4.0.8-300.f22.x86_64, and can't compile the modules. and this happen with virtualbox too.
VMware Workstation 12 Player does not run smoothly out-of-the-box under Fedora 22 as suggested. I tried the patch above and I still get nothing when I try to load VMware Player. I've tried 11 and 12 patching for both and they still do not load. When I apply the patch I get...
sudo patch -p0 -i /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patchpatching file vmnet-only/driver.c Hunk #1 FAILED at 265. Hunk #2 FAILED at 1191. 2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file vmnet-only/driver.c.rej patching file vmnet-only/userif.c Hunk #1 FAILED at 523.
I am going to uninstall and try again for the 4th or 5th time.
What's the error you get when you trying to install it the binaries from here: https://www.vmware.com/go/tryplayerpr... ?
The latest version (as of today) called VMware Workstation 12 Player runs smoothly out-of-the-box under Fedora 21. I guess, it would also work under F22.
Just download the binary package (it is free for personal, non-commercial use), make it executable (chmod +x VMware-Player-12.0.0-2985596.x86_64.bundle
), and run the installer sudo ./VMware-Player-12.0.0-2985596.x86_64.bundle
)

There is an update from vmware (VMware Workstation Player (formerly known as Player Pro) that doesn't need any patching.
