Hi, I have lenovo z500, When I used windows it had a application that had a option named dust removal which made fan spin fast( and probably reverse spin) to remove dusts inside it, since I can`t use that application on Linux, Is there any solution to do this? Thanks

Try fancontrol (read 'man fancontrol' for more info) fancontrol is part of the lm_sensors package.

su
yum install lm_sensors

Then run

su
sensors-detect

to set it up

P.S I doubt the fan reverses

I think dust removal using different fan speeds does not work. Dust particles won't "fly away" just because the propeller is turning fast or faster than before. Especially since the propeller is getting to its max speed in a curve/ramp, not instantly.

Fan reverse is not possible! (These fans a DC fans and there is no way a software could reverse polarity).

Also, you don't want the dust from the fan thrown in to the air duct. It could lead to a clogging or narrowing and less air flow.

All I can imagine that would remove dust is to open the machine (on my Lenovo Thinkpads, series T & X) it has always been very simple. I usually use a vacuum cleaner (on lowest power) or compressed air (preferred) to get rid of dust in electrical devices.

Look for How-to's or videos such as this to find out how to open your laptop and reach to the fan.

+1 Changing fan speeds is not the right way of cleaning the fan of dust. One usually needs to open up the machine and use an air spray or a hoover and so on.
