Returning from a suspend takes 2 tries

When I close my laptop lid then later re-open it, I of course have to enter my password to return to the desktop. However, every time I try this, I enter my password and the 'loading' circle animation thing appears and goes on infinitely, unless I hit cancel and then re-enter the password. This would be a pretty minor annoyance, but it does this every time without fail. Is there any way I can get it to just work the first time? Also, I don't know if this is related, but on YouTube I can't use the search box unless I reload the page in Chrome. Similar issue, but seemingly unrelated.
