Fedora 19/20/21 AMD APU Laptop A10 too hot to use

I try to set the Radeon low power profile:

echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

I can not enter the command without permission denied when using basic user or sudo rights. If I try to use su then I get an unknown command error. (I can provide exact error messages but I'm in Windows atm working)

System: AMD A10-4600M APU w/ Radeon HD 7660G 8.00 GB Ram

The laptop gets so hot just streaming a little music and word processing that I have to use Windows to go mobile and have battery life :( (no opensource)

Is the only answer to get an Intel laptop to avoid heat and battery drain?

Well, on La[tops the what manage the power and heat normally is the BIOS, some bios has a flag that when set this issue is fix. Main issue is some manufacture bios are close source, so that cause issues. So look for Linux modules for your laptop on the maker of the machine. Good luck.

Has anyone noticed how expensive the AMD motherboard is for a 3 year old laptop? ~$120 HP DV7 7000

I was curious how easily I could have found a motherboard Linux module to address horrible power-management. I ended up giving up on this laptop (HP DV7-7227cl); it was made by HP to only run Windows with a stripped down UEFI that hated MBR and non GPT disks from the borderlands of a 2-3 year old A10 APU.
(By the way the motherboard had decent battery life in Windows 7 MBR / Windows 8.1 GPT...but any Linux ran hot for 1 hour of battery)

Got a nice deal on recerftified Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 2 Pro on ebay. Good battery life and operating temperatures with Fedora 21 and all other partitions wiped clean after backup!!! :)
