Running Fedora 21 Workstation. On a fresh boot, gnome-shell process consumes sub 100MB. After a few hours of usage, the memory usage shoots up to more than 800MB. It remains put there even after I quit most of the programs I had started.

Is this what is called 'memory leak'? Is it normal? How do I set it right?

Same issue happens for me, with 100% of memory usage by gnome-shell.

Alt-F2 r solves the problem. But that is a hack.

Is there anyway to call something like "Alt-F2 r" from a terminal?
