Running mutt v1.5.23 on Fedora 21 Workstation.

I have configured mutt to access my gmail imap account which it does without error.

On gmail, there are some folders like folder1, folder2 -- I can access these also by switching to a folder.

But when I select folders with name such as folder1.ext, mutt gives an error:

[NONEXISTENT] Unknown Mailbox: folder1/ext (Failure)

How can I resolve this?

Haven't used mutt in a while, but aren't the "folders" you speak about on Gmail just labels? Are you sure these just translate as is to mutt? I thought you had so set up filters on mutt too. I'm probably wrong, but it's worth checking.

@FranciscoD_ Yes. The folders are labels. But I am able to access folders/ labels without a '.' in it! Moreover, the error replaces the '.' with a '/'
