Since the Raspberry Pi 2 model will include a newer ARMv7 CPU and Fedora recently raised ARM to a primary architecture, will it be possible to install Fedora on the Raspberry Pi 2? (and I do not refer to some outdated Pidora remixes which are already there...)
I'm especially interested in running Fedora Server on a Raspberry Pi 2.
Yes, the new Raspberry PI "2" model is an ARMv7 chip. The Raspberry PI people have a Debian release that works on it, and when you get the "universal" download that has lots of distrubutions on it to install, the Pidora one isn't one that will work (or at least that's what they say) on the new chip. The info from /proc/cpuinfo says "ARMv7 Processor rev 5 (v7l)" and indicates that it has 4 cores available (along with 1GB of RAM). I would like to get a working version of Fedora without ty Debian stuff to be functional.
With the vast majority of the kernel requirements up stream it's possible we'll support this in mainline Fedora 24+
As you've noted, Pidora is already available for the Raspberry Pi. It already runs - and it's certainly not an outdated remix, the current version is based on Fedora 20.
Until about a week ago, I ran a full web server on one of my old Raspberry Pi's. The new architecture brings a slightly faster processor, multiple cores, and more memory. Other than that it'll be pretty much identical. The video chipset for a server is pretty irrelevant, so any changes there will make little difference if any.
So I don't believe you'll have any problems running the current, up-to-date version of Pidora on your RPI2.
thanks for your answer. The big difference between the first and the second generation of Raspberry Pi is the architecture switch from ARMv6 to ARMv7. Therefore it could be possible that no special remix is required and standard Fedora runs on it. But I don't know, so this is the question. Additionally, Pidora seems to be more a Workstation Fedora. I would prefer the Server variant.
No, I don't believe that's correct. I bought a brand new B+ pi last week, and it's got an ARM 7 processor.
Pidora is an install of Fedora 20, where there isn't really a marketing differentiation between workstation and server installs. These distinctions are artificial - the use to which you're putting your computer should determine which packages it needs installed.
I'd just as easily install my own 'server' flavour of Pidora as I would for a CentOS installation for a big server. If I need a service, I'll install the package for that service.
are you sure your B+ got an ARMv7? All articles I read about the Pi 2 wrote that the architecture changed. Additionally uname -m on my B model says armv6l... But nevertheless, even if newer Pi 1 models have an ARMv7: The architecture changed at some time and now the standard Fedora could maybe work. Beside that: According to the Server Lifecycle wiki page, the Server flavor has it's own repository and once it reaches final 1.0 state it will have a more conservative update policy which is more appropriate for a server than a usual bleeding edge workstation Fedora

If there's a move from arm6->arm7, I don't expect any issues arising.
