I am a longtime user of linux but I am not very knowledgable about the tech side and using the terminal/installing tarballs and things like that.

I am trying to install a secure chat program called Telegram and have run into some confusion. It has you download a tar.xz file which contains the 'Telegram' program file and an Updater. I've actually been able to extract the tar.xz and run the Telegram program and it works fine, however it does not show up when I search it in applications and the Telegram icon that I have pinned in my dock does not open the program.

I have tried make install and done a lot of searching but can't seem to find any answers, like I said I am not very knowledgable so I might be missing something pretty easy. I'm running Fedora 21 on a Lenovo Edge.

[asinha@cs-as14aho-2-herts-ac-uk poster(master=)]$ sudo dnf copr search telegram
[sudo] password for asinha:
========================== Matched: telegram ===========================================
rrix/bitlbee-tg-hc : Bitlbee with support for Telegram and Hipchat

jreznik/cutegram : Cutegram is a cross platform, free and opensource telegram clients,
focusing on user friendly, compatibility with desktop environments. Cutegram is using Qt5, QML, libqtelegram, libappindication,
AsemanQtTools technologies and Faenza icons and Twitter emojies graphic sets. It's free and released under GPLv3 license.

rommon/telegram : telegram desktop app

lsof/telegram-purple : Telegram-purple is a Libpurple plugin that adds support for the Telegram messenger to Pidgin.

iranzo/telegram-cli : Telegram CLI rpm based on code

I haven't tried any of them, still using the official client provided here, but I've heard good things about cutegram.

For the official app, I didn't do anything tbh. I just downloaded what the site provided and ran it. It shows up in the gnome application list here now.
