I left a USB joystick plugged in and this happened when I powered on my system....

No biggie, I just unplugged it and booted normally but am I really not able to leave this plugged in when I reboot???
It is not the Operating system that chooses to boot from a device, but the PC itself. Your PC might be detecting your joystick as a bootable CD.
You may have the options to set the priority to boot the hard disk instead of CD drive, but that depends on your PC manufacturer. For most devices, boot options can be loaded by pressing F12 during boot.
