Fedora with a simple window manager

I do not like GNOME Shell but I do like the GNOME applications and rely on them heavily. Right now I am using the awesome window manager, I think it's a good replacement for GNOME Shell, however, there are some small annoyances. Every time I want to connect to my VPN with nm-applet, I have to type in the VPN password, then a dialog pops up asking me to unlock my login keyring, also, I can't use gnome-software to uninstall or install packages.

What actually do I miss if I do not log into GNOME? How can I get rid of these issues?

Thanks in advance.

You need to pass the gnome settings daemon into awesome autostart file.

For the passwords and settings something like this would work, this are from openbox so you have to adapt to awesome:

GNOME PolicyKit and Keyring
eval $(gnome-keyring-daemon -s --components=pkcs11,secrets,ssh,gpg) &

GNOME settings
/usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon
