After downloading the latest software updates for Fedora 20, I noticed an unwanted change in my touchpad's pointer speed. Regardless of whether the pointer speed is set on 'slow', or 'high', or somewhere in the middle, the speed does not seem to change. I would describe the speed as being always noticably slow. Any thoughts?

Thanks, christopher. The answer which you indicated ("yum --enablerepo updates-testing update xorg-x11-*") solved the problem, on rebooting. Great relief!
A workaround
As you said that problem occurred after an update, I guess some package related to mouse/touchpad has a regression or similar. I don't have this issue though (but I use testing-updates repo by default).
A workaround for this problem could be synclient. First, give this command
synclient | grep -ie minspeed -ie maxspeed
and you should get the values. I think the important one is the MaxSpeed output. Try to change it to a higher value.
synclient MaxSpeed=2
and see if this fixes the problem.
If yes, you can add this command as a startup application (depends on what DE you use).
Had exactly the same experience! I was about to post the same question when I saw yours. I have to use a USB mouse (which works fine) till we get a solution, as the touchpad mouse moves only about 100 pixels with a full finger sweep. I have attached my list of last night's software update. Would you please supply your update list (terminal as root: "rpm -qa --last | tac >> " followed by a suitable path and file name; copy out of this list the latest updates, and perhaps sort the list, as I have done). If we compare lists, perhaps we can find the culprit?
Technical Details: My computer - Asus K52F, running Xfce version of F20. Device: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad. Touchpad works perfectly with F19 and Mint 16 installations on same computer; but same problem in F20 if I revert to either of last two kernels. Printouts in my F19 and F20 installations are identical for module "synaptics" in Xorg.0.log and for "synclient".

I have the same problem using Fedora 20 KDE on an Acer Extensa 4630Z. None of the touchpad settings make any difference. The problem started 2 days ago after running updates.
