I'm trying to get ssh access from my OS X host to my Fedora guest, But I'm unable to ping the box at all. I have 2 adapters set up, I have one set up as NAT, and the other is set up as host only. I've tried to disable the firewall completely, and was not able to successfully ping the box, I've tried to add an exception in the firewall, again unsuccessful. Any ideas as to what I may be missing?

I've figured out what the issue was. In my Virtualbox preferences -> network -> host-only Networks was displaying the wrong IP address. I've have since corrected the issue by changing the IPv4 address to 192.168.56.1 and the IPv4 Network Mask to 255.255.255.0, and I'm now able to ping/ssh the box.

First of all, make sure you have setup the Firewall host-to-guest network properly. The default scheme is NAT which doesn't allow a host to access the guest directly. It only allows a guest to access the host's internet connection through network address translation. You will have to setup something like Host-only networking setup ( https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_hostonly ). This will create a virtual nic (typically vbox0 with an ip-address 10.x.x.1), so that your host is able to ping and ssh the fedora box and both boxes can talk to each other.

On fedora, firewall allows the ssh service by default. But still, you can make sure by opening fedora firewall and making sure that ssh port is open on the public zone (or whatever zone your vbox0 nic falls in).

How is the firewall supposed to be configured for host to guest? Also, I'm planning on using this machine as a virtual server, So I've set up a static IP address of 192.168.56.121 on the machine. I've verified that the vboxnet() address is 192.168.56.121, but I'm still not able to ping/ssh the box.
