I have Fedora 20 as a host system and XP and Windows 7 as guests. On guest systems I cannot reach USB drives. I tried to fix this by adding user to virtualboxusers group, but it still not work. I noticed - when I boot guest OS - plugged in USB drive disappears in host file system, when guest is shouted down USB appears.

Which version of VirtualBox are you using? The version of VB from the standard Fedora repo does not support USB access. You need to enable the repo maintained by VB themselves (see virtualbox.org ). This is because the USB support option license is non-free by Fedora's guidelines.

If you're already using the VB version with the USB extension, you need to go to Settings->USB and enable the specific device you want to connect (while the guest system is not running). This enables VB to capture the USB port when that device is plugged in.

Lastly, the correct group is called vboxusers, not virtualboxusers. Make sure you log out and in again for the change to take effect.

in menu toolbar of or vm you got devices -> usb devices , you can enable/disable what you want, with vm shutdown , in Machine -> settings -> USB , see if you got USB 2.0 enabled , for that you need install Oracle VM VirtualBox extension pack , which is not GPL , and also needs vm in power off .

What a nightmare

Its like every crap in linu only works half way

those who made the virtualbox port forget that if you want to install a OS you want to actually USE it

UNREAL

My friend I have the same problem and it seems that installing virtualbox alone is only to stare at the pretty colors at the screen to use the guest os you need to install some VB extention pack, you need to add virtualbox user to the users file whatever that crap is you need to add some "vb guest cd" to be able to have a virtual follder etc etc etc good luck

lets not even talk about internet because my installed windows xp in VB does absolutly nothing and has no internet unreal
