Fedora 20 will freeze randomly for me, it did not happen before. I'm not sure when exactly did it start. When it freezes the HD light is not turned on, so it's not thrashing. ctrl-alt-f1-f7 don't do anything. I can't SSH to the machine from the network.

/var/log/messages tells me nothing useful after a reboot.

i would like to install back the 3.12 kernel to check if it was caused by a recent kernel update but I'm not sure how. Any hint? Also any hint of what else can I do to troubleshoot the problem?

At first I was convinced it only happens when I'm on battery but now it happened once while I was plugged in, for the first time. I'm also considering reinstalling in case something somehow became corrupted. This is a fedora18 installation that I keep upgrading, I'd probably better off with a clean install now.

To install back a 3.12 kernel

To install an old kernel, here is what I usually do :

To view the logs

You need to use journalctl since files like /var/log/messages are no longer available (see question 9299).

More than likely, yes. I recommend backing up any personal files you don't want to lose and performing a fresh install of Fedora 20. I recall they had mentioned a few major differences between 18 and 19, and now on into 20 that might affect how things worked.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

User'm started with Linux Ubuntu 12.04 and since 2010 and I've been using debian distros, the last more than one year of use was the CrunchBang without ever having had any freezing problem but now Fedora installed over a month I've been having freezes to 2 3 times a day because the system aborts and returns to the login screen and other times I have power off, not to lower apparent cause. I use Chrome, Thunderbird, Libre office, skype ie the basics of office automation. But the freezes occur in the last bit now by clicking a botton chrome of a page of a "Contact" site. Any idea? Fedora 20 is unstable, yet?

I am using old notebook DELL Latitude 131L 2Gb ram 60GB disk
