I had made an big mistake with my SAMSUNG HD103SI that was i had just put on it ATA SECURE ERASE through disks utility......after some somtime i found my desktop got freeze and i reboot the system manually............and now i am unable to the format the hdd . Whenever i start the destop it shows following error: ata 3.00:status {DRDY ERR}+ ata 3.00:error{ABRT} ata 3.00:exception Emask 0x0 SAct SErr 0x0 action 0x0 ata 3.00:BMDMA stat 0x65 ata 3.00: failed command : Read DMA.EXT ata 3.00: cmd c8/00:00:08;00:00:00/00:00:00:00/e0 tag0 dma 4096i res 51/04:08:00:00:00::::/e0 Emask 0x1/device error

ata 3.00:Status:{DRDY ERR} ata 3.00:error:{ABRT} Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0

then however reached the loging screen through severel attempts HDD is failed to performed the SMART test and i am unable to erase the hdd and can't make any partition or format.

I searched on internet to secure erase the hdd 'hdparm' is better option.............

I have followed the instruction in https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php...

So following things i have done:

hdparm -I /dev/sda

output it shows:

Blockquote

Security: Master password revision code = 65534 supported enabled locked not frozen not expired: security count supported: enhanced erase Security level high 208min for SECURITY ERASE UNIT. 208min for ENHANCED SECURITY ERASE UNIT. Logical Unit WWN Device Identifier: 50024e9201aab2a3 NAA : 5 IEEE OUI : 0024e9 Unique ID : 201aab2a3

Blockquote

then when run the command to set the password to the disk it shows I/O error:

hdparm --user-master u --security-set-pass deep /dev/sda

output is showed:

security_password="deep"

/dev/sda: Issuing SECURITY_SET_PASS command, password="deep", user=user, mode=high SECURITY_SET_PASS: Input/output error

then again for the erase :

time hdparm --user-master u --security-erase deep /dev/sda

output:

security_password="deep"

/dev/sda: Issuing SECURITY_ERASE command, password="deep", user=user ERASE_PREPARE: Input/output error

I had tried it with the Disks to format hdd the error it shows:
