Is there some way to stop fedora 20 from locking up?

I am trying to develop appls using fedora 20 but it locks up for no apparent reason.

It will lock up when I run firefox, or may not. It will lock up when I run eclipse, or may not. I will lock up when I run firefox and eclipse, or may not.

I can have several terminals open with different apps running including eclipse and firefox and it may or may not lock up.

Is there some way to stop fedora 20 from locking up?

Not much to go on here but is there something in say /var/log/syslog that indicates and error or excessive wait times?

What does locking up mean? Lock the screen?
