How can I put my laptop into standby (other than closing the lid)?

Gnome: What is the easiest way to put my laptop into standby? (Other than closing the lid)

In Gnome-Tweak-Tools there is a section called "Power" (At least in Fedora 20 - Gnome version) in that section there is a option called "Power Button Action", which you can change it to "Suspend", so if you hit the power button it will suspend your computer. Hope that helped.

Unfortunately that doesn't work for me. Any ideas? (Using Thinkpad x201)

@ALL: Holding ALT changes the turb-off-button in the drop down menu into a button that has the look of a pause symbol. This function suspends my laptop.

Click on drop-down menu as if you would turn off your machine, then press ALT. The power-off symbol will turn into a "pause" symbol, representing stand-by
