What happens if I rpm -U /var/lib/system-upgrade?

I seem to have a borked upgrade.

I can boot - sort of. Boot in the sense that x doesn't startup properly and yum doesn't work. Fortunately rpm does. The upgrade had obviously finished downloading all the packages I needed into /var/lib/system-upgrade (thanks fedup0.8).

Some packages in /var/lib/system-upgrade are installed but some are not. So my question is, if I boot up and run rpm -U *.rpm, what will happen?

The rpm -U command (--upgrade is equivalent) performs two distinct operations:

Installs the desired package.

Erases all older versions of the package, if any exist.

thanks, I suppose the question is really whether this would break the system (i.e. will it correctly handle dependencies - assuming they're all there, what will it not do - such as add a grub entry for fc20 etc.). I'll accept because I'm not expecting another answer and yours is technically correct.
