I've just upgraded my work desktop to FC20 using fedup. Yes, I know about the fedup-0.7 issue, and I was able to perform the upgrade.

When I boot using the FC20 kernel, I see the inflating Fedora logo for a few seconds, then the machine reboots. Fortunately, I'm still able to boot successfully using a FC19 kernel.

Any clues what might be going wrong? What log file should I look at to find out what the error is?

Fixed -- problem was that the grub entry for fc20 had some stuff put in by fedup that made it look like the updater. Removed that, and it boots fine.
