OSX hostname changes after installing Fedora in vmware
I have fedora 19 installed on my imac osx 10.9 with vmware fusion6 I receive an ocassional warning sign when I turn on my mac: "localhost name is in use on network. the name has been changed to Michael's imac 7 local..." apple technicians just told me to watch this condition since nothing seems to be affected. I just think that they answered such is because the machine is not being used strictly as a mac. My questions are: 1 Would it seem that I installed sharing incorrectly? 2. Am I damaging my mac in someway? By the way, I love my fedora! Computing has become exciting for me again. Upon answering, could you please tell me how I can respond to you. Merry Christmas
Try to make the problem reproducible. See http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57547889-263/tackle-a-macs-name-changing-with-sequential-numbers/ . I would stop vmware and make sure that hostname change does not happen due to the reasons given in the article (having both ethernet and wifi active; google for more: mac forums are full of opinions about this problem, e.g. http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1025181,1025314). If a clean mac does not have this problem, then configure vmare Fedora to start without network access - does the problem appear? If not - enable network on vmware Fedora
