Hello:

I have an Acer Aspire S7 laptop on which I installed Fedora 19 64bit.

It's running kernel version: 3.11.6-201 (64 bit), but the below problem has existed in prior kernel versions, too.

As mentioned in the subject line, Suspend / Resume and Power Off do not not work properly on this Intel / Haswell video based laptop.

Specifically, I can't get the following things to work properly on this laptop:

Suspend/Resume & Hibernate/Resume doesn't work:

The laptop doesn't properly resume from Sleep or Hibernate modes. The screen
stays black (i.e. resumption of video does not happen). I can, however, ssh
into the laptop and interact with it (including rebooting it).

Also, after Sleep/Hibernate and Resume, when I press and release the power button
(to try to trigger a shutdown because there's nothing else I can do at this
point), it too to no longer responds. Press / release of the power button
works fine otherwise.

So I basically have to press and hold the power button to power off the laptop.

Power Off of laptop doesn't happen after "init 0".

When I shutdown the O/S gracefully (either executing init 0, or press/releasing the
power button when ths O/S is properly running), Fedora shuts down gracefully but does
now power off the laptop. This, despite acpid running (maybe I don't have it
configured properly).

To help, here is 'lspci' output for this laptop, with even more verbose output provided in the PASTEBIN URL that follows:

user$ sudo lspci

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT DRAM Controller (rev 09)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) <--------- VIDEO
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Device 0a0c (rev 09)
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP USB xHCI HC (rev 04)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP HECI #0 (rev 04)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP HD Audio Controller (rev 04)
00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev e4)
00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP USB EHCI #1 (rev 04)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP LPC Controller (rev 04)
00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile SATA Controller [RAID mode] (rev 04)
00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP SMBus Controller (rev 04)
01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev 6b)

It's a bummer to have to power down / up the laptop constantly because of this (instead of Sleep/Hibernate resume).

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Bump...

Btw... Just to test, I booted Windows-7 live from a USB stick (yes one can be created) to see what happens when I click "Shutdown",... and sure enough it shut the O/S down and AND powered off this Acer S7 laptop.

So,... what could be missing from my very (VERY) complete install of Fedora 19 that would shut down this laptop too? I have Fedora 19 running on two other laptops, and power off isn't an issue. Maybe I'm missing a necessary configuration parameter for this particular laptop (kernel line in grub2, or whatever).

Any ideas. Thank you.
