What's the difference between

?

The rescue image has a full boot filesystem, or initramfs. The non-rescue image has an initramfs with only the information needed for your specific installation, allowing the machine to boot faster. If you add new hardware, a video card for example, you might need to use the rescue option to recreate the initramfs.
