I just installed Fedora 19 and anytime I reboot it gets stuck and repeats messages "cannot enable port 3. maybe USB cable is bad" and "cannot enable port 4. maybe USB cable is bad?". The only USB devices I have plugged in are my keyboard and mouse, both work fine while booting and once the system is running but during the shutdown process I get stuck on those error messages. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I checked all the internal cables, all secure. Rebooted without the keyboard and mouse, still had the same issue. I tried opening /var/log/messages and got denied access.

The ports that are causing the error are the USB 3.0 ports on the front panel. The cables to those ports are secure at both ends but the ports do not work.

You need at least temporary administrator-level access to debug this. Type "sudo less /var/log/messages" to read the messages log. If you cannot sudo, you need to change that. Ask as a new question. But to get started: If you installed F19, you should have been the one to assign the root password. You should be able to use "su -i" to get a root shell, then "visudo" to add yourself to the sudoers file.

With a new install, it is probably a config problem, not hardware. HOWEVER, it may be worthwhile to open the case and ensure that there are no loose internal cables. For USB, the cables may run from header pins on the motherboard, to front or back panels. If your USB is directly on the main back panel, then there are no internal cables involved. Just for grins, you can also try a different mouse and keyboard, and also try a boot-reboot cycle with no mouse keyboard at all.

Otherwise, check the /var/log/messages file for more detailed info.
