I've just noticed that on my fresh Fedora 19 install, I cannot use the Function keys to dim/brighten my display. All the other function keys work, except for these two.

I'm running F19 x64 on a HP ProBook 4540s with Intel HD4000 and AMD Radeon HD 7650m graphics.

The HP website doesn't seem to offer any Linux drivers and I'm a bit stumped.

Any ideas? Thank you.

I get this too.

The on-screen display image appears on the screen when I try to make the change but has no effect.

This happened on previous versions of Fedora (I think it's the same with openSUSE, and when using Gnome or KDE).

I always thought it was because I was using an on-board Intel graphics (Ironlake Mobile) card/driver.

As a workaround, I can change the brightness during the boot process, i.e. when the Kernel/Rescue option is displayed, but not while the system is running.

Can you do this?

No, I can't dim it during boot either.

Works just fine in Windows though.

It's really annoying, especially at night... which ironically is when I work the most.
