I`m planning on changing my CPU on my server back home. And that means it has to bring its own motherboard. Small upgrade from Pentium 4 HT to Intel Core 2 Duo. Now, i got a domain set up, a couple of web sites, utorrent server, scripts that output through parallel port (parashell), 4 HDDs in LVM, who knows what else i missed. Basically i have to bring all my HDDs from an Optiplex 620 to 745.

The big question is: what could go wrong? i`ve read that the kernel can "plug and play" a new CPU ....?!?! is a simpler (more secure) solution trying to install a new version of Fedora on the new server and start transferring settings from the old to the new system?

Later edit: ah .. i think video card will be a problem and XBMC huh?

Could be. It's very difficult to know for sure. I'd recommend you backup your data before you try it out. Most of the hardware should just work well enough, but I've heard issues that crop up with hardware changes.
