Hi again.

This problem is not bothering me because I can extract mp4 vídeo and subtitles from mkv files pretty quickly, but I would like to play mkv files from my computer to my tablet through Rygel.

It's not a problem of the tablet because I can play those files when are inside the tablet's memory.

What issue do you run into? Does the tablet detect your DLNA server?

Yes, I can play music, and other video formats like mp4. But mkv files don't load. I will update the question with the error message that I get from rygel.

It is firewalld that is causing the problem. You can

  1. Read https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FirewallD and try to figure out how to let UPnP/DLNA pass the firewall;
  2. Remove the package by sudo yum remove firewalld, and restart.

For method 2 use at your own risk.

It could be a firewall problem but you should request more information before coming to this conclusion.

Indeed, MKV is a new and powerful video format, has a lot of valuable features that other video formats do not have.

However, it is not powerful enough to replace all the other video formats, sometimes we need to convert them to other video formats. Just like your problem here, it's the phone could not support it.

Although I don't use the Samsung but i often meet the same troubles, so I use the video converter software to fix it :D. Here's the software i like and want to recommended for you--Video Converter Factory Pro, i think it will not be the problem for this software to convert the MKV format into many common ones which are supported in your cellphone, such as the MP4.

Hope you will enjoy this one!

Why Samsung Galaxy won't play MP4, FLV, 3GP, WMV, AVI, MKV which are all Galaxy S claims to support video format.

Samsung Galaxy native player does play AVI, 3GP, WMV, MKV, FLV, but note that the above mentioned video is just a container format which can contain various codecs, while Samsung Galaxy only support video codec in MPEG-4, H.264, H.263, Sorenson codec, DivX HD/ XviD, VC-1. If your video is encoded with other video codec, Samsung Galaxy will refuse to play.
