Tor is not the same as the Tor Browser Bundle.
Performing yum install tor
only installs the Tor client, which can connect to the Tor network but nothing else.
The Tor Project recommends downloading the Tor Browser Bundle from their website. This bundles the Tor client with a modified Firefox browser.
If you want to stick with the stand-alone Tor client, you can also configure your regular Firefox to use the Tor SOCKS proxy (localhost on port 9050). However, the Tor Project recommend that you browse the Internet only with the Tor Browser Bundle, since Firefox may leak data and reduce your anonymity.
Can I set up a SOCKS proxy (localhost:9050) for my system (network settings) in order to torrify my entire network traffic? Do I have to manually start/stop tor (service tor start
and service tor stop
)? I already have Tor Browser Bundle installed - does that also mean I should have a working Tor client?
Download it from here, and follow these instructions to install the TorBrowserBundle.
OR
you can install torbrowser-launcher (sudo yum install torbrowser-launcher
). According to the package description it does the following:
dnf install torbrowser-launcher ; torbrowser-launcher
