I try to install a icon-theme but I don't know how? it is a tar.gz file and when I extract it I see that is with a index.theme file. so only copy to /usr/share/icons is not enough :-(

so is there somebody that knows how I can install a icon-theme with a index.theme on Fedora 19 (gnome) ?

thanks a lot,

Usually in an icon theme distributed as a tar.gz, the extracted folder should contain an index.theme file, as well as a bunch of other subfolders each containing PNG icons. The index.theme file essentially refers to and depends on these other folders.

The top tree looks something like this:

├── actions/
├── apps/
├── categories/
├── devices/
├── emblems/
├── extras/
├── index.theme
├── mimetypes/
├── places/
├── status/
└── stock/

Extract your tar.gz to /usr/share/icons and make sure that the directory structure is similar to the above. The GNOME desktop should immediately be able to see the new theme and select it using the gnome-tweak-tool on the "Theme" tab.
