Booting Fedora 19 Live CD on my laptop results in a kernel panic at early boot (0.7 seconds). Here is the stack trace displayed on my screen: (my karma is insufficient to publish links).

The problem seems to happen in kernel_init -> ret_from_fork -> rest_init.

I've checked the iso, and even tried the netinstall and DVD version: same problem. I've also tried different USB sticks. My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio X870, and Fedora 18 with Linux 3.9.9 works well on it.

Do you have any clues? I'd be happy to give you more info on my problem if you tell me what :)

I've found the cause: Linux between 3.9.2 and 3.9.8 had a bug (#964335 on Red Hat bugzilla) and didn't boot on my hardware. Sadly, this kernel version is used in the Fedora 19 Live CD.

To solve this, I created my own Live CD with latest packages (including Linux 3.9.9), by following the wiki page How_to_create_and_use_a_Live_CD. Here is how I proceeded:

  1. I created a very simple config file using system-config-kickstart, ks.cfg
  2. I added those 3 lines a the beginning of ks.cfg, to indicate that I want a Fedora 19 instead of 18:

    %include /usr/share/spin-kickstarts/fedora-livecd-desktop.ks
    repo --name=fedora --mirrorlist=$basearch
    repo --name=updates --mirrorlist=$basearch

  3. I ran this command to create the Live CD iso:

    sudo livecd-creator --verbose --config=ks.cfg --fslabel=FedoraLiveCDTest --cache=/tmp

Here we are, I now have a FedoraLiveCDTest.iso file which boots OK :-)

Here, have some karma for answering your own question! BTW, has unofficial live composes that are updated semi-regularly.
