Is there a reason that you're using a version of Fedora that's completely out of date? Only Fedora 17 and 18 are currently supported, and soon after Fedora 19 is released, Fedora 17 will reach End of Life. Consider replacing Fedora 14 with something more current, if possible.

I am doing my application which is going to be anextension of something which another person did at a previous time 6 years back . He did it on 2.6 kernel based RTAI . So i do not want to change the kernel and everything so as to ot create problems with the older code

Unless you're doing something really strange, such as relying on obsolete hardware, Linux kernels tend to be backward compatible by design. I think you'll find a more current version of Fedora will work at least as well as F 14, you'll be able to find help if you need assistance.
