I have installed fedora 19 xfce spin then installed gnome 3.8. it is very very slow so i checked the settings and found that Graphics is VESA: intel sandybridge Mobile graphics

x11.xorg.drv.intel is installed though. i should mention that i am not able to control the brightness, and if the laptop suspends the screen goes black and i can't do anything but to shutdown using the power button on my laptop.

Okay here is the solution,

In kernel boot line remove nomodeset and replace it with acpi=force pci=noacpi this will make the grpahics driver + wireless work fine. for the brightness i wan't able to control it using my keyboard keys, but i installed xbacklight and now i can use:

xbacklight -set 30

or better "if you are using gnome 3" install the brightness extension for gnome 3

What if you just remove 'nomodeset' ? That isn't a default boot argument.

when i remove it and boot, i get a black screen, nothing else to do.

Hi everyone, well for the brightness control i use a simple tweak

First i install xbacklight with

sudo yum install xbacklight

And then i add the command at the startup apps :

xbacklight -set 100%

where the number means the brigthness cuality, for example 100% means the highest brigthness of my laptop

Greetings
