I love linux and I think fedora is the best distro out there, but for some reason it is noticably slower than windows 7 on my machine. It hangs a lot and none of the animations is smooth. It is a HP pavilion dv9700 laptop. I have 2 gb of ram and a dual core intel processor. I will add the hardware output from lshw in the end of this question (see link). I hope you can help me because I really love the linux filosophy and don't want to have to go back to microsoft and windows.

Did u do a yum update? If not, please do it! Is it slow from the booting stage?

Yes, I did a yum update and it is slow from the minute ist starts up to the moment I shut it down. And it's not only fedora, ubuntu's unity is incredibly slow and mint is also hanging a lot. I even tried xfce and lxde versions of fedora without succes. As you can see from my specs this should be quite a lot better :(

I don't know, I have Fedora 18 with Gnome on a 2gb ram notebook (acer aspire 5541) and runs fine. I think that Fedora, I tried 16,17, and now 18, don't have the best animations, for that try Mint or Ubuntu, but it's a safe distro. Try fedora with KDE, LXDE or XFCE and I'm sure that will run faster than your current version!

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! I tried Mint and Ubuntu and also installed the XFCE and LXDE versions of Fedora (my favourite distro by far!) Still it lags a lot, which shouldn't be so bad with my specs I think. I guess it may be a compatibility problem but I can't put my finger to it. That's why I added my specs in the lshw link at the bottom, maybe you guys can find the problem? Lots of thanks in advance!
