Hi,

I am quite new to Linux OS and I tried out Fedora 18 with GNOME desktop. I was playing out with the terminal and change the gnome-terminal profile from "default" to my own created profile. But now, whenever I open the terminal it just automatically closed right away.

I tried to mingle around to fix it with the UNIX terminal by pressing ctrl+alt+F2, but my laptop screen hangs.

What is actually happening here, is it the bug from fedora? I cant seem to find any solution on google. Is there any way to change back the gnome-terminal default profile to "default"?

It would be great if I know the location where the gnome-terminal store its default profile. Thank you.

if your ctrl+alt+F2 doesn't work or hands you probably have video driver problem with the terminal windows, but this is not the question to resolve right now, you can boot your laptop with a dvd an follow this step :

select troubleshooting
rescue a fedora system
continue
ok
ok
start shell

now you are in the terminal, now you have to access your system, type this in the terminal :

chroot /mnt/sysimage/

now you are in your system.

If you would like to do a complete reset of the Gnome Terminal settings, the directory that store this information is ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal (in a normal situation you can delete with ctrl+alt+F2 and the back to GUI with ctrl+alt+F1).

Then delete it:

rm -rf /home/youruserhere/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal

and reboot you laptop as normal.

hth,

deleting the gnome-terminal folder and rebooting subsequently is working well. Thanks!
