1) Can't find resolution 1920x1980 and generaly don't see 16x9 resolutions.

2) After every restart, previously selected resolution is lost and defaults to low default.

3) Can't install VirtualBox Guest Additions.

Unable to access "VBox_GAs_6.0.4" Error mounting /dev/sr0 at blah blah: unknown filesystem type 'iso9660'

4) Mouse arrow is wrong scaled bigger. This can be avoided though by disabling mouse integration.

5) Enabling 3d acceleration makes system unusable-very slow.

  • Using VirtualBox version (6.0.4) with the official extension pack.
  • As Fedora 29 Workstation comes with VirtualBox Guest Additions pre-installed, the problem is not related to not having guest additions installed probably.
  • Given 20GB RAM | 4 CPUs | Max Video memory and 3D Acceleration Disabled

The problem is that some video drivers are stuck in the 1990-s non-wide screen format. For a solution, se this YouTubea presentation: Custom Resolution in VirtualBox.

The procedure worked for me, so try it out.

I assume you are using the VMSVGA video driver definition in VirtualBox,

Oracle also document this -- somewhere, but it is very hard to find.
