Can't boot on Fedora 29 Kernel 4.20.13

Good morning everyone,

I'm writing this post because I recently updated Fedora MATE x64 system on my laptop (HP Stream 11).

When I reboot, if I choose the last Kernel available : Fedora 29 Linux 4.20.13 => It won't boot, I just have the Fedora logo printed and then a black screen.

If I choose : Fedora 29 Linux 4.18.16 => It works.

Do you have an idea why isn't it working ? Maybe it is not the Kernel but lightdm or the MATE desktop which is causing problems ?

Well, unfortunately, no, this laptop doesn't have a dedicated GPU but instead uses the Intel graphics provided by the Celeron CPU.

That's why it is quite surprising, usually there are no such problems with integrated graphic circuits.

Anyone who would have an idea ?

EDIT : It now works ! I just updated the kernel to Kernel 4.20.14 using the old 4.18 version !

I'm afraid I'll always answer such questions like this, but here it goes...

It looks like a graphics issue. Do you have any GPUs in your machine? If so, using the proprietary driver may bring up such problems sometimes as you update your kernel version. That happens a lot to me, and I still don't know how to fix it. Although I always install the Nvidia proprietary driver with dkms, the driver always fails to mount onto the new kernel. So, in a nutshell, if you do happen to have a GPU and its driver installed, try reinstalling it and then booting the new kernel again.
